What is my job?

As a Northeast Regional Center for Excellence Summer Intern, a program made available through Cornell University, I will be working with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection's Office of Mosquito Control Coordination.  This office studies mosquito control and extermination, and runs many statewide mosquito control programs.  I will be working on the Vector Surveillance Program which works with the mosquito control agencies in 21 counties to monitor statewide mosquito populations and mosquito-borne diseases.  During the active season, samples are collected and tested from all over NJ and a weekly report is generated and used to assess vector and disease activity.  Some of the information is put on a dashboard for the public to view the activity in their area.
